Creating wellbeing. Exploring creativity as a tool for improving mental health

This exhibition was the result of a year-long collaboration between GoMA and the Glasgow Association for Mental Health (GAMH), aimed to explore the connection between creativity and wellbeing.

GAMH is a charity supporting the mental health of people in Glasgow. By using our exhibitions, the learning staff at GoMA has worked with GAMH to facilitate weekly creative sessions with different groups.

Our aim was not to address psychological difficulties, but to create a safe, non-judgmental space, where participants could enjoy the creative process. Experimenting with mindfulness-based art techniques, participants were encouraged to try something new and create their own artworks. The group also helped to curate the show and took the creative process further by writing labels for each of the artworks.

If you or someone you know needs help, contact GAMH at 0141 552 5592 or visit https://www.gamh.org.uk/ to find out more.
