Curator talk – Marco Polo’s “Orient”

In this series of short videos, GoMA curator Katie Bruce is in conversation with Dr Noorah Al-Gailani, curator of Islamic Civilisations at Glasgow Museums. As a response to Fiona Tan’s “Disorient”, showed at GoMA in 2019-2020, they present and discuss objects in our collection from the 13th century, the period of Marco Polo’s travels, which inspired Tan’s work.
Dr Noorah Al-Gailani has been Curator of Islamic Civilisations at Glasgow Museums since 2003. She is based with the Burrell Collection, but works across the city’s many museums to interpret Islamic art and culture, both ancient and modern, through research, exhibitions and a variety of educational activities and public events.
