elbowroom was the outcome of an 8-month art project developing new work on the theme of violence against women and the violation of women’s human rights.

The project evolved through workshops, events, consultation and research where women and young people were involved. Everyone contributed to the artwork, with some women and young people drawing on their own experiences. elbowroom was part of a wider project on the issue of violence against women entitled Rule of Thumb: Contemporary art and human rights and developed within a period of 13 months through a series of exhibitions, events, outreach arts projects and workshops.

Artists: Katie Bruce, Anne Elliot, Rachel Mimiec and Janice Sharp in partnership with Red Road Women’s Centre, Glasgow Women’s Library, Glasgow Women’s Aid and Base 75.
