Love Over Gold

Love Over Gold
Date: 30 October 2003 – 25 April 2004
Space: Gallery 4

Love Over Gold is a group exhibition featuring a selection of drawing, installation, painting, photography and sculpture made by British artists since 1990. All works are on loan from the collection of the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

The works in Love Over Gold exemplify the variety of direct and indirect approaches to portraiture and identity in recent British art. The artists use a range of spontaneous, playful, analytical, unconventional and traditional methods of production and focus on portraiture and identity through topics such as sport, medicine, social history, music and design. This can be seen in all works, from the more conventional portraiture of Moyna Flanningan’s Just Like Daddy (1998) to the psychological self-portraiture of Jim Lambie’s Bed-head (2002) or the football portraits of Roderick Buchanan in Work in Progress (1995).

Artists: Charles Avery, Richard Billingham, Christine Borland, Martin Boyce, Roderick Buchanan, Helen Chadwick, Moyna Flannigan, Damien Hirst, Louise Hopkins, Jim Lambie, Chad McCail, Wendy McMurdo, Victoria Morton, Julie Roberts, Yinka Shonibare, David Shrigley
