Wonderwall

Wonderwall
Date: 26 October – 7 November 1998
Space: Temporary Exhibition and Air Gallery Pit (now Gallery 3 & Pit area in Gallery 4)

Wonderwall features three walls of literature-inspired contemporary visual art by ten Glasgow artists and a fourth wall with drawings and texts from the audience’s response.

Wonderwall is part of a project linked to the ‘Inspiration from Word’ festival, a festival of the arts for Glasgow city schools and the ‘Read Me’ 1998 National Year of Reading. For this exhibition Glasgow artists were invited to submit work in any media which would be inspired by a work of literature. Ten artists were selected whose work were hung on the three walls of the gallery. During the last two weeks of the exhibition, the artists were in residence and, with the support of the poet-in-residence, Janet Paisley, led workshops addressed to school groups. Students were encouraged to discuss the variety of works, their inspiration and at the end, develop a literary response to the work/s exhibited. The results of this new writing were placed at the fourth wall of the gallery.

Artists: 10 Glasgow artists including Susan Brind, Jim Harold, Amanda Munro, Janet Paisley
