We Have Rather Been Invaded: Thirty Years Since Section 28, LGBTQ education now

Tuesday 29 January, 4.30 – 6.30pm

Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA)

Following a special screening in the Gallery 3 exhibition ‘queer timɘs school prints’ of the film ‘We Have Rather Been Invaded‘, the filmmaker Ed Webb-Ingall and GOMA are inviting teachers and people working in education to an informal discussion to reflect on the impact of Section 28 (Clause 2A in Scotland) and develop methods to align the current curriculum with contemporary LGBTQ+ experiences.
We Have Rather Been Invaded is a new video by Ed Webb-Ingall that draws on community video methodologies from the 1970s and 1980s to explore the impact and legacy of Section 28 and the direct action protests that preceded it. Comprised of a round-table discussion with activists and educators interspersed with archival materials, the video examines the role of activism and our understanding of this piece of legislation that prohibited local authorities and state schools in the UK from promoting homosexuality.
Free and accessible to all, refreshments will be provided. To book or any questions about the event please contact katie.bruce@glasgowlife.org.uk

GoMA would like to thank Ed Webb Ingall for working with us on this event as part of Jason E Bowman’s exhibition queer timɘs school prints
