Make @ GoMA – Perfume bottles

Inspired by our latest collection musings article on perfume and the artists Andy Warhol, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Ettore Sottsass in our collection, in this session we are going to design our own perfume bottle.
First of all, we’ll need some inspiration! Use a pen or pencil to draw any elements or shapes that you like from any bottles, containers, vessels, flower heads, animals, cakes, pastries, leaves or anything you can find around you. Try and find a freedom in your line drawings to discover shapes and forms you find pleasing to your eye.
Then leaf through magazines and coloured paper scraps to find textures and palettes of colour which fit your mood. Cut and collage different shapes and sizes. I found parts of dresses and materials and landscapes really inspiring as you can see in the images.
Decide on how you wish your perfume to smell. Is it light and floral or dark and earthy and musky? This will help with your design process.
