Material World: Sculpture from the Arts Council Collection

Material World: Sculpture from the Arts Council Collection
Date: 6 April – 25 September 2006
Space: Gallery 1

This exhibition of 17 contemporary sculptures was selected from the Arts Council collection marking the 60th anniversary of the Arts Council and the 10th anniversary of GoMA.

The Art Council hold more than 7,400 modern and contemporary artworks by British artists. For this exhibition, GoMA selected 17 sculptural works made by significant British artists. It showed few sculptures cast in resin or fibreglass and a small wooden work, but it does not display traditional stone, wood or bronze sculptures. The selection of these three-dimensional works created a balance between artists who explore the potentiality of the material and artists who play with serious and humorous elements.

Material World was also part of the Glasgow International Festival 2006
