Witness to Morality: Photographs by Joseph McKenzie

Witness to Morality: Photographs by Joseph McKenzie
Date: 21 November 1997 – 22 February 1998
Space: Temporary Exhibition (now Gallery 3)

Exhibition of new and previous work by Scottish photographer, Joseph McKenzie, also known as the ‘father of modern Scottish photography’.

One of Joseph Mckenzie’s most vigorous campaigns has been waged against the planners, who during the 60s and 70s, tore out residential areas in Glasgow and Dundee, replaced their houses with roads and moved the people to tower blocks at the edge of the city. His set of photographs Down among the Dead Men documents the decline of the shipbuilding industry while Gorbals Revisited celebrates the spirit of community in the Gorbals, before its redevelopment.
