Join us for an informal screening of Andrea Arnold’s Red Road, the second of three events in our Boundaries and Belonging series for the Learning and Access public programme at GoMA.

Mitch Miller, whose dialectograms are currently displayed in the Inner City exhibition, will introduce Arnold’s 2006 film. In relation to his dialectogram of the Red Road interiors, Miller will discuss the film, and other artistic representations of the Red Road flats. Audiences are encouraged to watch the film and make connections to themes within Inner City. As with the first event, Precinct, the session will encourage reflection on what it means to be a ‘citizen’ and to ‘belong’.

Places limited, and booking is advised. Suitable for ages 18+.

Boundaries and Belonging has been developed as part of the public programme for Inner City by Hannah Campbell, Diego Chocano and Ellie Dobbs as part of their internship at GoMA for their MSc in Modern & Contemporary Art: History, Curating & Criticism at the University of Edinburgh. Thank you to www.vivaverve.com for permission to screen Red Road.

Inner City, in Gallery 3 at GoMA, explores questions about the modern city, hidden communities and cultural identity. The exhibition takes its name from its centrepiece, a multimedia installation by Michael C McMillen – an amazingly detailed and atmospheric fictional depiction of a Los Angeles slum, which is on display for the first time in 15 years. Works by Alberta Whittle and Mitch Miller bring a local context to the dialogue. The exhibition is accompanied by a programme of related artist films which respond to the themes in the exhibition.
