WATERCOLOURS – an exhibition of work by children at Red Road Family Centre Nursery

This exhibition is related to PLOUGH and it was curated by Rachel Mimiec as part of her Associate Artist work with Red Road Family Centre Nursery.There are two works in the exhibition which opens today to the public, (but officially tomorrow morning with the children!). Illuminated Letters is a partnership project between Gallery of Modern Art Glasgow and Glasgow Women’s Library inspired by GoMA’s exhibition of the works of Niki de Saint Phalle. This project takes as its starting point the recently donated ‘illuminated letters’ of Niki de Saint Phalle in the collection of GoMA. We invited GWL to build a learning programme, with staff at GoMA, linked to the exhibition and the letters in particular and Illuminated Letters grew out of those conversations. The Gallery of Modern Art has been working with the International Play Association (IPA) Scotland around article 31 (the right to play, arts, culture, leisure and rest) of the Convention on the Rights of the Child since 2009. This included work on Blueprint for a Bogey (2010) and Playable Spaces (2010 -). Recently it has centered around the work to get a General Comment on article 31 adopted by the United Nations Committee on the rights of the child.
