The Walker

The Conservationist: A talk on John Muir by  Will Collin, John Muir’s Birthplace Trust.

A talk to celebrate John Muir Day (21 April).

Come along and join us to hear Will Collin has been influenced and inspired by John Muir (1838-1914), the pioneering, influential Scots-born American conservationist who was passionate about the wild dedicated his life to protecting wild places. He campaigned successfully for the establishment of National Parks to safeguard vast tracts of wild lands, including Yosemite Valley in California.

Will is involved in the friends of John Muir’s Birthplace and more information on him can be found here.

The Documentary filmmaker

Jo Meacock recently joined Glasgow Museums as Curator of British Art. She will talk about the concept of the ‘sublime’ in landscape painting referring in particular to works in Glasgow Museums collections.

Rachel Mimiec has asked Dr Joanna Meacock (Curator of British Art) and Polly Smith (Senior Conservator) to join her for an intriguing tour of Glasgow Museums store to explore the idea of the ‘sublime’ in painting from their different disciplines: artist, curator and conservator.

Family Workshops

Saturday Art Club, is on every Saturday from 10:30 am -12:30pm for families with children 3 – 12 years. Drop in to these Rachel Mimiec inspired classes:

Saturday 9 March – ‘Play with Paint ’ try different fun and messy painting techniques.
Saturday 6 April – ‘Natural Art’ let nature inspire your artwork.
Saturday 13 April – ‘Plough through Paint’ Get stuck in to this colourful painting workshop
Saturday 11 May – Rachel Mimiec will lead a very special Saturday Art Club.

Adult Workshops

Adult Drawing Club
Sunday 14 April 1pm- 3pm

Drop in for an informal afternoon of drawing in the galleries. Experiment with a range of drawing techniques and materials in this Rachel Mimiec inspired Drawing Club. All skills welcome, – materials provided.

GoMA Bites , adult taster sessions once a month from 1pm-3pm
Sunday 19 May – Work with the artist, Rachel Mimiec will lead a special GoMA bites.
