New Acquisitions announced!

GoMA is delighted to announce some exciting acquisitions we have made over the last few months for Glasgow Museums’ collection – with more to come (of course) – and it felt like a moment to tell people what GoMA had been up to!
We are please to announce we now have works by Sara Barker, Kate Charlesworth, Michelle Hannah, Sharon Hayes, Winnie Herbstein, Mandy McIntosh and the Feegie Needlers, Carol Rhodes, Kate V Robertson, Anne Robinson, Siân Robinson Davies and Camara Taylor in Glasgow Museums’ collection and thank you to all the artists for their work and generosity in time and thought to make these happen. They were also made possible through incredible projects like queer times school prints with Jason Bowman, discussions with Andrew Mummery and Merlin James, Kirstie Skinner, Will Cooper and the galleries – Mary Mary, Patricia Fleming Projects and Tanya Leighton.
As usual it could not be possible without the generosity of funders – Art Fund, Henry Moore Foundation, National Fund for Acquisitions and OUTSET Scotland and the opportunity created with Richard Parry for Glasgow Museums to fund and acquire works through the GI Award 2018. Acquired as part of a significant strand of Glasgow Museums collecting approach, developed in 2015 to address gender inequality, these works make an unequivocal statement about the value and quality of work by contemporary women and non-binary artists. These recent acquisitions have been made possible through the support of a number of grant funders and organisations supporting the development of public collections including Art Fund, National Fund for Acquisitions, Henry Moore Foundation and Outset Scotland.
These latest acquisitions represent a significant strand of Glasgow Museums collecting approach, developed in 2015 to address gender inequality, these works make an unequivocal statement about the value and quality of work by contemporary women and non-binary artists. They are a legacy of the conversations developed through the 2015-16 exhibition Ripples on the Pond, recently discussed as a case study for Scottish Contemporary Art Network’ s Art in Action campaign.
Ripples on the Pond was an exhibition of work exclusively by women, with a programme of associated activity such as events and screenings to support the work of women artists in Glasgow. It provoked a discussion on gender inequality in Glasgow Museums’ collection and how that could be addressed through future acquisitions. The new acquisitions increase the number of works by women in the Glasgow Museums’ fine art collection, which already includes internationally renowned artists Karla Black, Christine Borland Anne Collier, Jacqueline Donachie, Jenny Holzer, Barbara Kruger, Victoria Morton, Charlotte Prodger and Hito Steyerl.
We are looking forward to installing these works that are not already on display at GoMA in exhibitions leading up to and in the 25 anniversary of GoMA in 2021!
